During crab season from winter to spring, Kappou Kawaguchi offers special crab courses, allowing guests to choose from different types of crab to suit their budget.
The "Yaki-gani" grilled crab, prepared right in front of you, fills the air with a wonderful aroma and lets you savor the sweet, rich flavor of premium crab in a truly luxurious experience.
オグゾー
The crab was served freshly boiled. It was impressively large, though it was not as full of meat as expected. Still, the quality justifies the JPY 5,000 price for crab alone. Thanks to its popularity on YouTube, reservations have become difficult to secure, but the reasonable pricing leaves a positive impression. Perhaps because it was freshly boiled and so fresh, the Benizuwaigani crab was especially delicious.

The Gozen set features a full array of Toyama’s culinary specialties, including white shrimp sashimi, white shrimp somen noodles (especially delicious with a rich dashi broth), firefly squid with vinegar miso, a small hot pot of genge (eelpout) fish, steamed red snow crab, and grilled yanagi hachime (rockfish), among others. Every dish is outstanding, allowing you to fully savor the flavors of this port town at a reasonable price. It’s no surprise this restaurant is so popular. For visitors from outside the prefecture, the Dairyo Gozen is highly recommended.

Red Snow Crab
Exceptionally sweet and delicious crab. Perhaps because it’s freshly boiled, the shell cracks open easily—simply perfect! The shoulder meat is abundant and wonderfully plump. From the first bite to the last, there’s absolutely no need for any dipping sauce. The natural flavor of the crab, combined with just a touch of salt from boiling, is more than enough to enjoy. Crab truly is a delicacy.

The natural sweetness of the crab shines on its own, but I also enjoyed it with a side of vinegar. The kani miso (crab tomalley) was excellent, and the steamed vegetables offered a nice change of pace between bites. I ended up ordering another draft beer. I was told I eat quickly! The deep-fried crab shell was also delicious, especially with the flavorful sauce. Afterwards, I had some chilled sake—Masuizumi—which was superb. I was delightfully full and a little tipsy. The meal concluded with miso soup and crab yaki-nabe rice, both of which were outstanding.

The "Koshi no Beni Gani Plan" lets you enjoy a whole crab. After watching the crab auction held during the day, you can savor fresh red snow crab.
What arrives at your table is a branded crab, complete with a tag. Raised in the deep sea, these crabs are known for their rich, juicy flavor, packed with natural umami.
There is a plan that allows you to enjoy an all-you-can-eat crab feast for 60 minutes after watching the auction.
You can also add local Toyama specialties such as marinated firefly squid and a selection of alcoholic beverages. For an extra treat, try dipping crab leg meat into rich kani miso (crab tomalley).

After a brief explanation, freshly boiled crab was quickly brought to the table. The irresistible aroma of crab filled the air. Each bite was juicy, thick, and bursting with flavor. It was part of that same morning's catch so it had a clean, refreshing finish. You can fully enjoy the pure, delicious taste of crab that rivals even king crab.

The texture and flavor differ slightly from the fluffy, sweet, and densely packed meat of tag-bearing snow crab, but this is unmistakably authentic snow crab. Enjoy a whole freshly caught and boiled crab, sure to satisfy both your heart and your appetite. You can also observe the auction and the boiling process, making this a must-visit for crab enthusiasts—an experience worth paying an extra fee for.

It's Koshino Benizuwaigani! The staff member skillfully prepared the crab for easy eating, so I could enjoy picking up the meat with chopsticks, cracking the shell, and savoring every bite—finally, the moment I'd been waiting for with this delicious crab. Midway through, the tempura of genge (rockfish) arrived. The tender flesh and crispy bone crackers of this rare "phantom fish" were a treat! Returning to the crab, I enjoyed the claw meat, and finally, the rich crab miso from the shell.

Without using vinegar, you simply savor the hot, freshly cooked crab, focusing solely on extracting the succulent meat. Each leg is packed with tender crab, perfectly seasoned to highlight its natural flavor. You find yourself repeatedly cracking open leg after leg, enjoying every bite. きた こうへい
Although Toyama is famous for its seafood, I was never a big fan of grilled fish before. However, the fish dishes here are so delicious that I find myself wanting to eat them every day. The combination of salmon and miso sauce is outstanding—the miso is perfectly sweet and makes the rice even more enjoyable. The sashimi is also incredibly fresh, and I was thoroughly satisfied with my meal.

We were shown to a raised seating area on the left, and our lunch was served shortly after. Both the sashimi and the freshly fried tempura were delicious. Even my mother, who eats slowly, was able to enjoy her meal at a relaxed pace.
