Everyone here seems to be enjoying both their drinks and food, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The selection of Japanese sake truly lives up to its reputation—it's exciting just to browse the menu. Popular labels such as Juyondai, Hiroki, Kuheiji, and Sharaku are all available. From crisp and refreshing to rich and full-bodied varieties, the range is impressive. While many establishments tend to focus on a particular style, it is rare to find such a diverse lineup in Sapporo.

Well-known throughout Hokkaido for its conveyor belt sushi, Hanamaru's izakaya concept is "Sushi to Robatayaki Shiki Hanamaru North Exit."

True to its name, start your meal here with sushi. In addition to assorted platters, you can also order individual pieces—two per plate—such as squid or salmon.
Enjoying sushi with a glass of Japanese sake is a perfect pairing. Some sushi is served with yuzu salt or seared soy sauce for an extra touch of flavor.

Next, let's turn to robatayaki. Here, you can enjoy fresh seafood from Hokkaido, expertly grilled, with ingredients sometimes sourced from places like Rebun Island and Abashiri.
Signature appetizers such as homemade satsuma-age (deep-fried fish cake) and their special buttered potatoes pair perfectly with Japanese sake and come highly recommended.

The freshly fried satsuma-age stood out for its light and crispy texture, and wrapping your preferred amount of negitoro in seaweed made for an indulgent treat. I finished my meal by ordering my favorite nigiri. Both my appetite and my mood were completely satisfied. I’ll definitely be back!

Minato Machi no Monkichi is an izakaya where you can enjoy Hokkaido’s signature fresh seafood dishes.
Conveniently located just a one-minute walk from the north exit of JR Sapporo Station, the restaurant is on the basement floor of a building. Please note that there is no sign, so be sure to check your map in advance.

Outstanding value for money! Enjoy deep-fried botan shrimp—a delicacy rarely found outside Hokkaido. Pure indulgence, and the perfect match for a cold beer. The zangi (Hokkaido-style fried chicken) is impressively large, and the portion of tempura soft roe is about 1.5 times what you’d find at izakayas elsewhere in Japan. Of course, the flavors are exceptional. A surprising highlight is the fresh cream cheese served with crackers, presented in a special dish that holds each cracker individually. Truly impressive.

Although the name "Hakata Gyoza Ya 603 Sapporo Ekimae" might suggest a Chinese restaurant, it actually offers a wide variety of izakaya-style dishes, including fried chicken wings and hot pot.

The owner takes pride in selecting only the freshest seafood, which is beautifully presented in assorted sashimi platters and also crafted into sushi.
Among the offerings, the thick-cut "Saba Bozushi" (pressed mackerel sushi) comes highly recommended. It features Hokushin Saba, premium mackerel sourced from Kushiro Port in Hokkaido.

If you arrive early, be sure to try the limited-time "Evening Drink Set."
This special set includes your choice of an assorted platter—sashimi, tempura, or delicacies—served with two alcoholic drinks and a small appetizer, all at a great value.
Even after the set hours, the overall menu remains reasonably priced, so you can enjoy your meal with peace of mind.

Assorted Sashimi Platter
Each piece is thickly sliced—almost like getting two pieces in one. The Chutoro melts in your mouth, rich and flavorful. The Shimesaba is lightly cured, with a generous layer of fatty fish that simply dissolves on the tongue. The Sea Bream is mild yet moist and tender. The octopus leg and head are exceptionally firm, with a gentle briny taste from the sea. The Salmon is fresh and plump, with a delightful bite.

The dishes here are of outstanding quality. It's impressive how the owner manages everything alone while keeping the restaurant spotless down to the smallest detail. I found myself truly admiring the care taken throughout my evening. The ingredients are always fresh, and if you order something that's out of season, the owner will let you know, "This isn't in season now, so it will be frozen—is that all right?" Such thoughtful service! I can't wait to visit again.

The "Omi Gamecock," raised over an extended period, is known for its lean yet flavorful meat. Each day, the chickens are prepared in-house to ensure exceptional freshness.
In addition to classic cuts like breast and thigh, Jiki also offers unique selections such as "calf" (the lower leg) and thickly sliced neck skin, providing a variety of rare and delicious options.

The restaurant also comes highly recommended for its "Mizutaki" hot pot, which features a rich, flavorful broth made from Omi Shamo chicken. If you want to try it, the hot pot is only available by advance reservation the day before your visit.
The Mizutaki is made with only shamo chicken and cabbage, seasoned simply with salt, resulting in a luxurious, milky-white broth. Mention it when you reserve, and you can also enjoy their "Shamo Sukiyaki."

The rich, stew-like broth is made by simmering dozens of Omi Jidori chicken bones, resulting in an exceptional soup. This Omi Jidori Mizutaki is available only in limited quantities each day and requires a reservation, attracting many dedicated fans. The rice porridge made with this flavorful broth is simply outstanding—truly surpassing the usual expectations of zosui.

The calm, inviting interior creates a wonderful atmosphere. Staff are attentive and provide thorough explanations of each dish. Jiki is known for its premium shamo chicken, and offers an excellent selection of skewers, many of which are only available in limited quantities—so it's best to visit early. On this visit, we enjoyed shamo yakitori and fresh sashimi, including delicious nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) sashimi.

Many dishes here feature lamb, with their Jingisukan (grilled lamb) being especially popular. Their "Four Flavors Jingisukan" comes pre-seasoned with soy sauce, miso, salt, and other seasonings.
Another recommendation is their Jingisukan Zangi, a unique twist on Hokkaido-style fried chicken, made with lamb instead of chicken.

This dish is available in limited quantities and may sell out quickly, so visiting early is recommended. The menu also offers Avocado Pork Loin Cutlet and Ginger Pork Set Meals.

Fresh Horse Mackerel Fry Set Meal
I tried the limited Fresh Horse Mackerel Fry Set Meal! True to its name, the aji (horse mackerel) was exceptionally fresh and delicious. The fried fish bones were also prepared so you could eat them, adding another tasty touch. The clay pot-cooked rice complemented the meal perfectly. Next time, I might try the Chicken Nanban!

I visited just as the sanma (Pacific saury) season was beginning. I was craving sanma and came specifically for it—and it exceeded all my expectations! It was easily the best, most delicious sanma of the season. In addition to their signature "Kani Maru," the menu features a wide variety of dishes, including the easy-to-eat "Teba Ichiro" (deboned chicken wings), skewers, pizzas, and more. The selection was so tempting that I ended up ordering more than I planned!

The private rooms with sunken kotatsu-style tables are a welcome feature. The dishes showcase the best of Hokkaido’s culinary delights, with a focus on local ingredients and regional specialties. For drinks, start with Sapporo Classic as part of the all-you-can-drink menu. The meal begins with sashimi, followed by crab, grilled hokke (mackerel), and continues with zangi (Hokkaido-style fried chicken) and fried potato mochi.
