I stopped by here after hiking at Mount Irikasa.
If I had come from Tokyo, I would have preferred to enjoy soba at a more proper restaurant, but since it was after the hike, lunchtime was already over, so I reluctantly ended up here.
It was a weekday, and perhaps due to the season, local elementary school students visiting Mount Irikasa were waiting for their bus and had turned a corner into a luggage storage area. Nevertheless, the spacious hall, which probably seats around 300, was quite empty. However, I could imagine it being packed during the ski season.
I chose from the menu displayed on a large board at the entrance and ordered at the far end of the long counter. The system involves receiving a handheld device that beeps when your order is ready.
I ordered the Tempura Zaru Soba with two servings for JPY 1250. Two servings weren’t too much, and I think one would have left me wanting more. The flavor of the tempura (which is fried after you order), the broth, and the soba noodles was decent.
The atmosphere wasn’t the best, but given the convenient location for hikers, I added an extra 0.1 points for effort.
