Chef``Cooking is logical'' A former engineer who found his calling
Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1956. I have always loved eating. At the age of 22, he quit his job as a technical office worker and began training as a chef at a Japanese restaurant in Shimonoseki. A few years later, he moved to a long-established restaurant in Kyoto called Gion Toriimoto. After working there for 11 years, he became independent in 1991 and opened Kappo Kichizen in Gion Tominagacho, and moved to Kodaiji in 2008. Now, 25 years after becoming independent, [Kichizen] has become one of the famous Japanese restaurants, and he feels that ``the cooking is logical.It's suitable for me, who has a science and mathematics background.''
Food The owner himself purchases seasonal seafood and vegetables from all over the country.
We carefully source ingredients from all over the country, with the top priority being to ``enjoy delicious seasonal produce.'' We carefully select seasonal ingredients, including seafood caught from local waters and the Sea of Japan, and vegetables sourced from areas unique to Kyoto.

The retro-modern private room on the second floor was built with the image of Taisho-era romance in mind. The room is furnished with chairs, a table and a carpet in an extraordinary Japanese space. Yet it subtly creates a peaceful atmosphere that encourages lively conversation. It is recommended for entertaining guests and dates, as well as for celebrations and meals with friends. On the first floor, there are cypress counter seats with an expansive courtyard garden stretching out before your eyes. You can enjoy the space, which changes its appearance with the seasons, along with your meal. A special seat where you can enjoy the chef's skills right before your eyes.

[Kappo Kichizen] stands in the quiet and secluded atmosphere of Kodaiji Temple in Gion. In addition to the elaborate cuisine that makes you feel the arrival of the four seasons, you can also enjoy the view of the small garden from the counter seats. The maples in the garden sprout young leaves in the spring, turn green in the summer, turn beautiful red in the fall, and silently drop their leaves in the winter. When I look at such a garden, I feel strangely calm. Enjoy the seasonal flavors of Gion during your important entertainment or adult date.
