Kakaku.com, Inc. ("the Company") carries out a range of information provision services under the corporate philosophy of "We continue to create valuable user-oriented services ."

In order to protect and appropriately handle personal information received by us from customers of the various types of services, the Company has established a personal information protection management system, and has prescribed the following Personal Information Protection Policy. All officers and employees working in the Company are familiar with this Policy, and we strive to appropriately protect personal information in accordance with the Policy.

Although "Tabelog Terms of Use" is prepared both in Japanese and English, "Tabelog Terms of Use" in Japanese shall be an original document and the English translation shall be treated as a reference document.

1. Establishment of Personal Information Protection Management System

The Company has established a management system to protect personal information received in its business activities.

2. Acquisition, Utilization and Provision of Personal Information

When acquiring personal information in its business activities, the Company specifies the purpose of utilization of the information in advance. It appropriately handles the utilization and provision of the personal information.

In addition, it prohibits the utilization of personal information for purposes other than those in accordance with laws and regulations, and takes measures to that end.

3. Compliance with Laws, Regulations and Standards

The Company complies with laws, regulations, guidelines formulated by the State, and other standards in relation to the handling of personal information, and has established Personal Information Management Rules in accordance with those laws, regulations, guidelines, and other standards.

4. Implementation of Security Management

In order to ensure the accuracy and security of personal information, the Company implements reasonable measures corresponding to anticipated risks, including management of access to personal information, restrictions on means of taking out personal information, and preventive measures against unauthorized access to personal information from outside the Company, and it strives to prevent leaking, loss or damage to personal information. These security measures are periodically reviewed and revised.

5. Handling of Disclosure, etc., Complaints and Consultations related to Personal Information

If the Company receives a request from an individual in accordance with its published procedures relating to personal information to disclose, correct, add to or delete, or disallow the use or provision of personal information of the individual concerned, or a complaint or request for consultation in relation to such personal information, it will respond promptly, after appropriate confirmation of the individual’s identity.

6. Establishment, Implementation, Maintenance and Continuous Improvement of Personal Information Protection Management System

The Company makes its officers and employees working in the Company aware of the importance of protecting personal information. In addition, for the proper utilization and protection of personal information, it has established a personal information protection management system and faithfully carries out, supervises, maintains, and continuously improves the management system.

3. Matters Relating to Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties (Article 23(1) of the Act)

The Company appropriately manages personal information acquired, and does not provide it to third parties without the prior consent of the individual concerned, except in the following cases:

  1. When the personal information is provided pursuant to laws and regulations;
  2. When it is necessary for the protection of a person’s life, body or property, and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the individual concerned;
  3. When it is specially necessary for improving public health or promoting the sound growth of children, and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the individual concerned; and
  4. When it is necessary for cooperating with a state organ, a local government, or an individual or a business operator entrusted by either of the former two in executing the affairs prescribed by laws and regulations, and obtaining the consent of the individual concerned is likely to impede the execution of the relevant affairs.

4. Procedures for Meeting Requests for Notification of the Purpose of Utilization, Disclosure, Correction, Addition to, Deletion, Discontinuation of Utilization, Erasure, or Discontinuation of Provision in Relation to Personal Information Subject to Disclosure (collectively referred to below as "Request for Disclosure, etc.") (Articles 24(1)(iii), 29 and 30 of the Act)

    (Post office charges are to be paid by the applicant. Also, please send a bearer postal money order.)

    Charges: 1,000 yen (this is not required for applications for correction, addition to, deletion of, or discontinuation of utilization or provision, etc.)

  4. Method of Replying to "Request for Disclosure, etc."

    A reply will be in writing to the applicant’s address stated on the application.

  5. "Purpose of Utilization" of Personal Information Acquired in Relation to a "Request for Disclosure, etc."

    Personal information acquired by the Company from each application will be used to the extent necessary for the application procedures, including investigations, confirmation of identity of the individual concerned, and responding to the application.

5. Reasons for Not Meeting a "Request for Disclosure, etc." (Articles 24(2), 25, 26 and 27 of the Act)

In the following cases, we may not meet a "Request for Disclosure etc.," and in such cases, we will respond to that effect.

  1. When we are not able to confirm the identity of the individuals concerned or their legitimate representatives;
  2. When documents submitted are insufficient;
  3. When the request does not fall under the requirements prescribed by law for meeting a "Request for Disclosure, etc."; or
  4. When it is considered that meeting the "Request for Disclosure, etc." is not required by law.
